Taekwondo

Josh and Alex went to a place called Top-Kick for a birthday party. I was a bit apprehensive about the atmosphere there as they all seem to be very military like and lots of conformity. Not that there is anything wrong with that type of thing but for a 3yr old it seems a bit much. Once I saw how the session was run and saw that they seemed to have a good time and in fact little Josh really liked it I felt ok with the rigid and structured activity.

Josh has been having some anger issues at pre-school and I have been working with him to channel it in a more positive way other then to strike other human beings that piss him off. This is a far cry from Alex by the way so a little new for me. Anyway I think this Taekwondo thing may be a good tool to help the little beast control his anger and get some energy released. Today was his first session and he again seemed to like it and the uniform is a hit too. He is wearing the outfit as I type this and no telling how long it is going to stay on him. I just hope this is not too pricy but As a new student he got a free uniform and 8 sessions for free and after that we must plunk down some cold hard cash. We will soon see if he sticks with it.

Christmas is upon us

This year is going to be a fun one to remember. I usually don’t get very excited for it like I do the coming of spring but this year is different as we have kids now that are entering into the cool toys stage in life. My guys are pretty much the typical guys with Legos and stuff that smashes and crashes. The only artsy fartsy thing that has been on the list for Santa is from Joshua and he wants play dough so he can build a city he says. I know a city out of dough should be interesting. Alex my daily book writer wants Legos and a harry potter magic wand and I suppose he thinks that he can make his little brother disappear on command when he so choses. So I have had a pretty fun time shopping this year for them and the rest of the family. Another reason that I am a little excited for Christmas is that both my little guys know why we celebrate Christmas and with out prompt from me they say it is because of Jesus birthday. Good old Catholic pre-school and CCD to the rescue.

Kindergarten "Oh No"!

Our little Alex is a big boy now and off to the public school system. Where did the time go? Is he going to make it ok? Are they going to be nice to him? What if? What will he do? Oh no and more oh no. Take a breath and breath for all is well and good. These are the things I have been telling myself for the past weeks leading up to today. I got him up at 0730hrs and we picked out his clothes for the day. Then we had a good breakfast followed by brushing teeth and washing his face. The bus was quiet late but I was not worried as lots to do this first day of school for them too. I then took a quick picture of him loading on to the bus and a quick kiss and he was gone from my sight to a foreign land called school....He was however eager to get on that bus and waved good-bye from the front seat with a huge grin on his face. He will be just fine! I trained him well!

Some Summer firsts!

015

Well Alex has been pretty busy so far this summer. His first big deal was learning to ride a two wheeler last April and now is on to a bigger bike. He has had a few mishaps along the way but no broken bones as of yet. He did go flying into the woods however at the bottom of our house after he got going too fast and forgot to use his breaks. He has since mastered the breaks and very weary of hills now…The second big deal for a 5yr old was learning how to swim in the big pool. I have been working with both Alex and Josh and now are able to swim 10 meters or so. The breathing to the side needs some work but the summer is not over yet! The boys are getting to be lots of fun and it is wonderful to be their for the big deals in their life.

Bathroom remodel

Bathroom remodel 001

Last week I tore out our old shower as it was in need of a remodel. We redid our sink last year to accommodate a two sink design that includes a granite top but stopped short of any further work. So we are excited to continue the work and finish this big project. I can work on it in small pieces and still have time to properly watch the boyz. We are lucky in that we have three other bathrooms in which to use while I fix the master bath. Here is a few shots of the progress. The progress doesn't look like much but under that new floor is new base flooring on the left as the old had water damage and was rotting out. The drain also had the be relocated 7inches more away from the wall to get it centered for the bigger shower bed that is to come. A good solid base is paramount for a shower bed to be tiled later. Next step is to frame out the shower walls and bed. All the while with little curious people looking over daddy's shoulder…..   Bathroom remodel 010
